Vocab 11/21/13


1. Long exposure photography- involves using a long-duration shutter speed to sharply capture the stationary elements of images while blurring, smearing, or obscuring the moving elements
2. Light painting- a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source or by moving the camera
3. Solargraphy- is a photographic method for recording the paths of the Sun
4. Calotype-was a refinement of the process of photogenic drawing, offering a much more sensitive medium through its use of the latent image phenomenon

Vocab

Rule of thirds-The basic principle behind the rule of thirds is to imagine breaking an image down into thirds (both horizontally and vertically) so that you have 9 parts
Depth of field- the distance between the nearest and farthest objects in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image

DSLR-digital single-lens reflex camera, is a digital camera combining the optics and the mechanisms of a single-lens reflex camera with a digital imaging sensor, as opposed to photographic film.

Metadata- describes how and when and by whom a particular set of data was collected, and how the data is formatted
DPI- dots per inch, a measure of spatial printing or video dot density
PPI- measure the number of pixels per line per inch in a digital photo
